DLPDLCR3310EVM: Issue with modifying flash image

Part Number: DLPDLCR3310EVM

I'm using DLP LightCrafter v7.0 in simple mode (DLPLightCrafterDisplay_3310.projector) and want to change the startup splash image.

I've previously downloaded DLPDLCR3310EVM_DLPC3437_Firmware_Installer_v2.1.1.zip in order to get a clean firmware image to modify (dpp3437-dual-ASIC_2.1.1.img).

I switch to the firmware tab and select Update Flash Image - Get Started.

I select DLPDLCR3310EVM from the dropdown list, set dpp3437-dual-ASIC_2.1.1.img as the input image and a temp.mig on my Desktop as an Output Image.

I run through the remaining steps of the wizard selecting skip update where available and finally select Finish - which then fails.

The error dialogue reports Flash Image Update Failed. Selected input image does not match selected EVM type. Input image is meant for a DLPCDLCR 2010 EVM.

I've included a couple of screenshots below in case they help.

Any idea what I've done wrong?

Neil

  • Neil,

Welcome to the E2E forums, and thanks for your interest in our DLP technology.

Do you encounter any problems when trying to program the system with an unmodified image (straight from TI.com)? At first glace, it doesn't appear that you've made any major mistakes in your setup. Is the issue reproducible on other versions of the DLP LightCrafter GUI?
  • Hi Philippe,

Thanks for responding - I'd been assuming this was either user error - or that the software is validating the target hardware from the flash image incorrectly.

It's reassuring to know that it is not obviously the first of these!

I just tried updating firmware with the unmodified downloaded image and this worked okay.

I only have version 7.0 of the GUI downloaded - did you have an alternative version in mind?

    Many Thanks,

    Neil

  • Hi Neil,

Can you please share the firmware image you want to update. I will try to do the same exercise and let you know the result.

what other changes you have made in the firmware ? or you are just updating the new downloaded firmware image from ti.com.

v7.0 GUI supports the new released firmware.

    Thanks,
    Navneet
  • Hi Navneet,

Attached is the firmware I downloaded - dpp3437-dual-ASIC_2.1.1.img is within the zip.

I believe that this is the default firmware straight from the TI website.

What I ultimately want to do is add a batch file to the startup sequence to get the EVM to default to the FPDLink input (see SelectLvds.bf also attached).

I realise I need to use the Advanced GUI to achieve this - however this also fails, and unlike the Basic GUI it fails silently.

    Many Thanks,

    Neil

  • Hello Neil,

Have you selected the correct EVM type at the time of update the flash image.

Looks like you might have selected the DLPDLCR2010EVM.

Just verify and let me know if this is not the case then i have few questions :

    1.  Are you able to upload the released firmware, without any change?

    2. Are you making the only batch file update and skipping other options?

    Thanks,

    Navneet

  • Hi Navneet,

In the advanced GUI, I can confirm that I select DLPDLCR3310EVM.

When I press Update Flash - nothing happens - no output file, no error message.

    To answer your other questions:

    1. I have previously updated the projector with dpp3437-dual-ASIC_2.1.1.img and it still seems to work. I note you have a different firmware file - as far as I can tell I am using the latest from the website - is this the correct firmware?

    2. In the advanced tab, yes I am only making the batch update - see the screengrab

In the standard GUI, which does give an error message, I only get the option of DLPDLCR3310EVM

    Many Thanks,

    Neil

  • Hi Azad,

Yes, I've still got the issue, but the urgency has gone away, so no problem waiting a while for a fix.

    Many Thanks,

    Neil
