DLPLCR6500EVM: Error: Invaild DMD or Controller. Unable to switch to video/pattern mode.

Part Number: DLPLCR6500EVM

I have a DLPLCR6500EVM with a DLP6500FYE. My PSU is DPS53. The first time I tried it was good, but when I tried it second time, it only displayed half of the pattern on the DMD. After that, I can no longer get any patterns on DMD. When I opening the software, it shows 'Unable to switch to video/pattern mode, Error: Invaild DMD or Controller'. LED D6, D8 and D9 on the control board are green, but I cannot switch to normal mode in the software. And I have no display on the DMD.

I plug in a USB Type-B cable, a power cable and a HDMI to VGA cable on the board. The USB one and HDMI to VGA one connect with my computer.

I cannot get any output on the DMD and it shows Error: Invaild DMD or Controller.

  • Hi Taichu,

This means something on DMD board has gone bad. Unmount DMD from the DMD board to avoid any damage to DMD.

Please verify all voltages on DMD board are correct. Refer to the DMD board schematics and check Voffset, Vreset, Vbias and 3.3V are correct.
Please also look at this post on how to proceed for this problem.

  • Hi Taichu,

Were you able to debug the problem?

  • Sorry. You sent me all files about DMD9000, but I'm using DMD6500.

I can't find J3.1 on DMD board. But I do find another J1 on my board. I assume this J1 is 'J3' on the DMD6500 board.

    Here's are my test result:

    J1 3.3v

    TP4 0v

    TP5 0V

    TP6 0V

which means my Voffset, Vreset and Vbias don't have any output.

    How can I fix it?

  • Hi Taichu,

Below steps to follow to fix this DMD board

    1. Dismount DMD

    2. Short J1 so that U1 get enabled.

    3. Now test Voffset/Vreset/Vbias

    4. If not proper, then most common culprit is L1. Replace it.

    5. Check  Voffset/Vreset/Vbias. If ok go to step 8

    6. Replace U1

    7. Check Voffset/Vreset/Vbias OK

    8. Remove short on J1.

    9. Mount DMD
