DLPLCR9000EVM: Half of Image is frozen after power reset

Part Number: DLPLCR9000EVM

Hi,

we are using a UV-LightEngine for 3D printing that uses a DLPLCR9000EVM inside. We are facing the problem that only one side of the DLP is working after a power cycle. When everything is switched off over night the full picture is displayed. After switching off the power supply and switching it on again only half of the image is shown (always the same, sending the board to Standby mode in advance does not change anything). This behavior is the asme for all modes. Typically the last displayed image is frozen on that side or it is a distorted version of it. Remarkable is that the display dimensions setting is not reset during that power cycle whereas Image source, pixel clock, ... are set to default. When we see the full picture the display dimensions panel shows only 1280x1600 pixels. Is this normal due to the 2 flex cables?

I am asking in that community because I got the feeling that the LightEngine manufacturer has no glue about that.

Best regards,

Holger

  • In the meantime I realized that this behavior is caused by the connected Display port during the power reset. If the Display port is unconnected everything works fine!?
  • Hi Holger,

Welcome to the DLP section of TI E2E community. I will get back to you within day or two.

  • Hello Holger,

As I understand your comment, if you start the system up without the DisplayPort (DP) cable plugged in and let it initialize before inserting it, then after inserting the DP cable it will display correctly.  Is my understanding correct?

Also, could you provide the following information:

    • Is there a firmware loaded that has embedded batch files that set up the DP or does it come up to video mode with the ITE receiver powered "off"?
    • When it is only showing half of the image what does it report as the panel size?
    • What GUI version and FW version are you using?
    • Are you setting Dual Pixel mode?  (Please try using the GUI to power down the ITE receiver, setting dual pixel mode and then powering it up to DP again).

I believe that the DLP9000 DMD must be run in dual pixel mode or it will compress the image on each side.

Also, be sure that your GPU supports dual pixel mode.

Lastly, while the issue is occurring, please use the GUI to power down the ITE reciever, (set it to dual pixel if it is not) and then power it back on to DP using the GUI.  Please report whether this causes it to correctly display after that.

  • Hello Fizix,

thank you for your suggestions. I tried all your recommendations, but the solution was much easier: I had a displayport cable that has Pin20 connected. Due to that, parts of the EVM were powered by the graphics card. I tried another cable that has pin20 not connected and everything works fine now.

    Thank you for your support!
