DLP3010EVM-LC: Trigger connection between camera and projector

Hi,

I want to connect a hardware trigger to the DLP3010EVM-LC. The camera that is going to be used might be a Basler acA4112-20um camera, which offers Opto-coupled I/O input and output lines (also 2 GPIO lines) and a ground for opto-coupled I/O lines as well as GND for GPIO. My question is, how can I connect the trigger signal Trigger_Out 1 of the dlp to the camera? First guess would be TriggerOut1 to Opto-coupled I/O input coupling this pin to the GND of the camera.

What I've also found (but is undocumented?) is that there is a TPGND4 to 6 on the DLP3010EVM-LC. What are these for?

Thank you very much for your post.

Please allow me some time to review the schematic and determine if you can connect your trigger to our EVM.

The TPGND4 to 6 and GND testpoints. These test points allow you access to the GND place to hook up scope probes or for use with a multimeter to check voltages on the board.

Hi Patrick,

I believe your first guess is correct. Assuming you are able to control the output trigger from the DLPC3478, your method should work. I've provided the link to the reference design of this EVM which will provide access to the schematic and layout of the EVM. You can also see that TPGND4, TPGND5, and TPGND6 are all connected to ground from the schematic.

Hi Brandon,

just to verify:

I connect the TSTPT_4 (J4 connector pin 7) to the camera (opto-coupled Input line) and the camera opto-couple line ground to the TPGND4. Is that OK or would that destroy the device (because TPGNDx is only for multimeters etc.)?

Hi Patrick,

If you need a ground pin for your camera input line, using the TPGND4 pin as ground should not cause harm (as long as no signal needs to be sent over that pin).

I just saw that the J4 connector seems to have a pin for ground (Pin 1, display board). Can I use this for the camera?

Any ground pin on the EVM can be used as the ground pin for your camera.
