DLPC6421: How does keystone work with DLPC6421?

Part Number: DLPC6421

Hi sir,

We are designing a 4K projector using DLPC6421 x 2. I'm curious how keystone work with DLPC6421.

- I know there is I2C command to enable/disable keystone.

- do we need to add tilt sensor to calculate degree first? how can we send the degree to DLPC6421 or FPGA  which work with DLPC6421?

it' will be great if there is any technical document I can refer.

Best regards,

Langston

  • Hello Langston,

I believe the command needs to be sent to the FPGA. Generally the projector pitch is one parameter of this command. It will be up to the front end to determine how to calculate the pitch; however, generally a tilt sensor would be useful to automatically determine pitch.

Let us look into this and we will get back to you with more information.

    Thanks,

    Kyle

  • Hi Langston,

Thank you very much for your interest in DLP Pico and for your post!

For a DLPC6421 system, keystone is enabled and adjusted via I2C commands. The I2C commands are sent to the DLPC6421 via a front end chip. For calculating tilt, a sensor would be required if you are interesting in implementing auto keystone.

Are you working with an optical engine manufacturer to develop your project?

    Thanks,

    Brandon

  • Hi Brandon,

great thanks for your prompt reply. Now, I understand.

regarding your question, yes, we are working with an OE manufacture to develop our projector.

    thanks again.

    best regards,

    Langston

  • Langston ,

Adding on to my colleagues response.

Keystone supported on the platform is maximum +/- 40 pitch angle; the range could be smaller sometimes depending upon the OE hardware, also note  it is 1D keystone only, the command takes information such as resolution, Pitch angle, Anchor, Offset, Throw-ratio.

Of these Resolution, Offset, and Throw-ratio kind of fixed for any optical engine, user has option to change the Pitch angle & Anchor.

Anchor - points line # from which image is drawn on the DMD after Keystone adjustment, default is first line and can be setup upto 100lines from the first line.

    Hope this helps.
