DLPLCR6500EVM: What is the frequency and duty cycle of the DLPLCR6500EVM external light source pin?

Part Number: DLPLCR6500EVM

Is the frequency and duty cycle of the pins of DLPLCR6500 EVM external light source adjustable? What is the maximum frequency adjustable to? How to adjust? What does the red circle refer to in the picture? Thank you!

  • Hi Jiapo,

Is the frequency and duty cycle of the pins of DLPLCR6500 EVM external light source adjustable? What is the maximum frequency adjustable to? How to adjust?

If you are referring to LED enables which control the light source, you can adjust the frequency and duty cycle by varying the exposure and dark times of the pattern. The LED enables are set during the exposure time of the pattern. You have the option of selecting the color, frequency and duty cycle of your choice. The limit being 105us as the minimum possible enable time for each LED.This can be done by going to pattern mode page of the GUI

Below is an example of dutycycle 50% and period of 210us which has the max possible frequency of 4.76khz

What does the red circle refer to in the picture?

The options provided sets the input bitdepth of the image to the input parallel port if you are using a parallel source. If you are using the TI provided EVM, you need not worry about these settings as the HDMI decoder in the EVM provides these inputs automatically

Please let me know if you need more information

  • Thanks for your answer, Sachin.

I want to connect the laser light source to the external light source pin. I'm in HDMI video mode. I commissioned a laser manufacturer to customize the laser light source, and they wanted to know the frequency and duty cycle of the light source pin. So, what is the pin frequency and duty cycle in HDMI video mode? How to make external laser light source and DMD chip work simultaneously?

    Thank you!

  • Hi Jiapo,

Could you please elaborate what exactly is required for your application? Do you want to use video mode to display the input video source with laser illumination? Or do you want to display your patterns synchronized by the input video ?

If you are in video mode, the frequency of LED enables are dependent on the input video source frame rate. The R,G and B enable signals are set @ approx 33% dutycycle with frequency equal to the frame rate of the input video

If you are in video pattern mode, the freq and DC are dependent on the exposure time of the patterns along with the input frame rate. For more information, please refer DLPC900 datasheet section 7.4

    Thanks

  • Hi, Sachin

What is the maximum frequency of the external light source pin?

    Thank you!

  • Hi Jiapo,

If you are using one of the LED enables as external source pin, it is the highest possible frequency of input video source selected. In our case , it should be 60hz for a normal video input. But in case of your application, the laser would have a different source of high frequency and you would be using LED enable output to enable the laser source

    Thanks
