DLPLCR9000EVM: backside DMD board

Part Number: DLPLCR9000EVM

Hello,

I just started workig with the DMD Lightcrafter 9000 and currently I think about mounting the DMD. If you take a look at the DMD-board there is on one side the mirror itself and on the other one finds a metal plate, screwed to the back of the board. I could not find any information about this part in the documentation neither in the Design Files. So has anyone of you an idea about the purpose of this part?

  • Hello Carl,

Welcome to the DLP section of the TI-E2E forums.

The DLP9000 DMD is a hermetically sealed package that requires a contact interposer between the DMD and the printed circuit board (PCB).  We call it a "C-spring" interposer because the little contacts in the interposer are "C" shaped to make contact by providing some pressure to the contact points at the top and bottom of the "C".

The metal plate on the back spreads out the clamping force from the screws to the back of the PCB so that they do not concentrate the force around the screw holes in the PCB.  This provides the necessary clamping force more evenly across the "C-spring" interposer.  If you take it apart you will notice that there is a layer of heavy duty Kapton tape on the underneath side of this plate to prevent contact with the exposed via's on the back of the PCB.

    I hope this helps.
