DLP4500: Minimum operational temperature

Hello,

just want to ensure that our understanding of datasheet is correct. We think of using DLP4500 in low temperatures (could be as low as 0°C). Datasheet specifies the low end of operational temperature as 0°C, while "DMD temperature - operational, long-term " is specified from 10°C, but if understood the note well, it is an average temperature over the life time? Therefore powering and some initial operation of DMD at 0°C should be OK, as far as in average the DMD is kept at or over 10°C, and there will not be any impact on the DMD lifetime?

Petr,

In general, you are correct that the lifetime of the DMD should not be significantly impacted so long as you maintain the long term operational conditions.

Can you describe your use conditions in a bit more detail?

Basically the unit can be used in environment down to 0 °C. It can happen after the power-up that DMD will be at 0°C, while after some time heat generated by other electronics will bring the temperature higher, estimation is above 10°C. But can happen that DMD will be powered up and lighted by LEDs straight away at low temperature if that matters.

Is there any definition of short term regarding the temperature? Datasheet only defines that short term operating conditions can be down to -20, however there is no future description what short term means (this term is only explained with regards to humidity as 60 cumulative days, or is it the same?)

Hello Petr,

Thank you for your patience. The "short-term" operational is better defined in datasheet of new DMDs ex. DLP4710. Even though DLP4710 DMD is based on different pixel node, this definition will be applicable.

The short term operation is "cumulative" time over life of device. It is 25 Hrs for -20 to -10C and 500 hrs for -10 to 0C.
