DLPLCR9000EVM: DLPC900

Part Number: DLPLCR9000EVM

Hi,

I'm testing a DLPLCR9000EVM(DLP9000 EVM) kit.

When I connected the kit to a PC with an USB connector, then power up.

I can find that the LEDs of D5, D11 & D12 lighted up green (it means that power is normal)

but, unfortunately, next the LEDs of D7 & D9 did not turn on, as following picture. (It means that the DLPC900 was not operating normally.)

Also, DMD showed a strange & halt pattern, as following picture. It did not show any more changed images.

So, I tried to find a connection(USB) in device manager of windows 10 PC, but It was not appeared anywhere...

(Maybe I think a EVM kit was not connected correctly to the PC or DLPC900 was break down....)

Finally, I tried to reload/upload a firmware (ver. 5.0.1) to the kit via DLP LCR6500 & LCR9000 GUI S/W,  but, I faced an error, as following pictures,

I tried to following discussion (DLP9000: LightCrafter 6500 & 9000 - 4.0.1: Error on uploading firmware file & Error on image display), but it did not resolved, same phenomenon....

So, how can I save(?) that kit, like reloading a firmware, checking whether DLPC900 is live or dead, whether DMD was break down, and so on...

  • Hello Keo,

This looks like you have loaded the master firmware image to both controllers.  When you program the dual controller system, you need to use both master and slave file from the directory.

At this point, I would attempt to use the reprogram method using the boot hold jumper.

The steps can be found here:

    https://e2e.ti.com/support/dlp/f/94/p/874525/3235758?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=DLP6500%252520boot%252520hold#3235758

The instructions are in the very first response to Sato-san.

    I hope this helps.

  • HI,

I tried to reload firmware, as you commented.

    1) I set the boot holder jumper of J12

    2) connected the kit to my PC via USB, and then turned on the kit

    3) Run GUI S/W provided from TI

    4) Set the Chipset type to DLP9000

    5) Selected firmware files(master & slave files) from DLPR9000PROM-9000-v5.0.1/....

But, in 4) on the left tab of GUI, 'System Controls', the radio button of Disconnected was 'red', as following pictures captured.

(The driver files provided from TI were already installed correctly. It operated normally before)

so, I checked whether EVM is correctly connected to PC by using the 'Device Manager' of the control panel in my windows10 PC, but EVM did not appear in the list of 'Human Interface Devices'.

    (it also operated normally before)

The error massage from GUI was 'Unable to enter programming mode',

So, plz let me know how or what to do to resolve them.

    Thanks,

  • Hello again Keo,

Did the kit ever work correctly?  When you first started it up did it show the LightCrafter logo correctly as part of the patterns?

Since the the light does not show connected even with the boot hold button on, this suggests either a corrupted boot loader or some other failure.

From you first message it seems you are not getting a heartbeat LED on the master or the slave. (D7 & D9).

When did you purchase this kit?  If it is within the warranty period I would contact the distributor that you purchased the kit from.

  • Hello Keo,

One other thing to try.  Please try a different computer and/or a different USB cable.

  • Hi,

We purchased it one years ago, so the warranty period maybe finish.

It operated correctly before, as you told, it show the LightCrafter logo correctly as part of the patterns.

We tried to connect the kit to other PCs via other cables (that PCs operated correctly with the EVM kit before), but the same error occured still.

I expect the master & slave controllers (DLPC900s) might be failure, by no response of D7' & D9's heartbeats.

Now, Plz let me know, How can I check whether the controllers are normal or not, and How can I connect correctly the EVM to PC via USB.

(To reload an firmware of the controllers, I think the above must be solved first.)

Also, can you give me a contact phone number or email addresses of any TI's official distributors or technical supporters in Korea which I can contact ?

    Thanks

  • Hello Keo,

You are correct. The warranty period is only 90 days, so you cannot return it.

The fact that there are no heartbeats, but you still get some kind of image is puzzling.

The only remaining thing to try is reprogramming the bootloader using the FTDI USB-JTAG bridge as outlined in the EVM Guide:

DLP LightCrafter 6500 and 9000 EVM User's Guide (Rev. D)

The procedure is outlined in section 3.11 JTAG Flash Programming starting on page 59

You will need to purchase the FTDI UM232H part and make the cable to connect to the board.

Beyond that you would need to start checking voltages to make sure that all of the power rails are correct.  This can be done from the single controller board schematic.
