DLPNIRSCANEVM: Lamp Doesn't work anymore.

Part Number: DLPNIRSCANEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC350

Dear Texas Instrument team,

Thank you for your support.

Customer purchased DLPNIRSCANEVM on September 2019 and it was working correctly.

But he tried to use second time (he didn't use little while) it wasn't.

Lamp is not flashing and also some LED doesn't flash (there are only Blue and Green LED flashing)

And Cooling fun is working unstable.(Below link )

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/x2hn63v5sjieqdw/AADSFSHzgFEt4Tm95L-Pn9-ba?dl=0

Also PC doesn't detect device once hook up with USB cable.

Is it defective or customer needs to re-calibrate or something to do?

Can you give us an advice?

Thank you so much for your patience.

  • Hi Takashi,

    Welcome to TI E2E Forums!

Did you try installing the USB RNDIS drivers as described in NIRScanEVM Userguide?

    Thanks & Regards,
    Hirak.

  • Hi Hirak

    Customer didn't install it.

But problem is not even there.

According to Userguide 2.1 and do action till 2

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- An LED next to the power connector on the spectro board lights up green. :OK The fan starts and the DLPC350 and Sitara processor start booting. :OK After 5 to 10 s, the DLPC350 is confirmed to be running its firmware if green LED D3 (in the middle of the spectro board) starts flashing a heartbeat (approximately one flash per second). : NG A blue LED next to the Sitara Micro-USB connector also illuminates to indicate that the Sitara power supplies are up. : NG
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Like this

    and connect with USB
    then 2.1.4.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Connect the NIRScan EVM to PC, power it on and open Device Manager. The device displays as COM device. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It doesn't show on device Manger, though.

Can you let us know whats happen?

    Best Regards

  • Hi Takashi, kindly try the following steps:

    1. Reflash the Sitara FW by using the steps described in NIRscan EVM Reprogramming Procedure chapter on NIRScan EVM user guide.

    2. Kindly also reflash the DLPC350 FW by following C.3 Upgrading the DLPC350 Firmware section on the NIRScan EVM user guide.

    3. Make sure you are using 12V 5A power adapter to power the device.

If it still doesn't work, that may indicate some HW fault on the EVM.

  • Hi Hirak,
    Customer replied.
He tried these but it still didn't work out.
He tried according to the manual is
C.2  Reprogramming the DLP NIRscan EVM Application Software
    5. One or both of two blue LEDs (D1andD2) as shown in FigureC-3, flash on and off erratically.

This behavior indicates the eMMC is being programmed.

    A. Then LEDs weren't flashing. And Only 1D1 and D2 were flashing.
It supposed to happen as next step as "6" described but it doesn't. and PC wasn't able to detect the device.
    C.3 Upgrading the DLPC350 Firmware
    4. After running the LightCrafter4500.exe file, the system displays the GUI main window.
The green light to the left of the word Connected in the upper left corner of the GUI iindicates a connection to the DLPC350 device.
    A. And also Green light on GUI describe as above. I don't think It doesn't detect.
According to manual (Page 15)  I use connection 6 (Mini-USB interface to the DLPC350)

Can you give us an advice?

Thank you so much for your patience.

  • Hi Takashi,

Thanks for the information and your patience!

Was this device subjected to any physical force/wear and tear/ mishandling like connecting a wrong power supply, etc? Inability to reflash the Sitara FW may indicate HW fault.

Also, could you kindly elaborate on the behavior when you tried to connect to DLPC350 USB Port? Were you able to connect to the DLPC350 with the LCR4500 GUI and reflash the FW?

  • Hi Hirak-san,

Thank you so much for your support.

I just want to make sure is customer use "right" USB port?

I don't know what is going on.

If you gave us some detail for easy diagram probably it helps.

I think customer mistaking basic or physically broken as you think as well (internal which we can't see).

    Thanks!

    Best regards

    Takashi

  • Hi Takashi,

Could you please elaborate on your request "If you gave us some detail for easy diagram probably it helps."  to help me understand better the requirement from your side?

  • HI Hirak,

    Thank you for your support.

    Ok. Sorry about it.

    Make the thing easier.

What # of USB port customer supposed to hook this up?

I think customer choose wrong port in this case. I think customer use #6.

    My Question is

*He needs to use USB port (5a or 5b) instead Mini-USB port 6 isn't it?

Port 6 might use for some other faction, doesn't it?

I wish I can get over it asap. Cause this is expensive product and I hope customer's simply misunderstanding.

Can you give us as advise?

Thank you so much for your time and patience.

  • Hi Phillippe-San

    Thank you for your support.

    According to User guide manual,

Customer said He hook up PC with #6 (mini USB port).

I think that's why PC didn't detect Device. I think He supposed to hook up #14 USB port.

I don't think He can read English.

And I just want to make sure, Sir.

Can you let us know about it?

Thank you so much for your patience.

  • Takashi-san,

Kindly find the answers to your questions below:

    1. Customer needs to hook USB 6 to DLP LightCrafter4500 GUI to DLPC350, isn't it?

He seems like he hooking up port 6 to his PC.

TI> To Reflash DLPC350 FW, customer needs to connect PC to USB 6. as shown in the image.

    2. port 14 is what customer supposed to hook up with PC, isn't it?

TI> For accessing the spectrometer (Taking scans etc) USB 14 needs to be connected to PC.

    3. Both need to hook up when he re-flushing FW?

TI> To reflash the DLPC350 FW only USB6 needs to be connected, and to reflash the SITARA FW no USB port needs to be connected, but the SDCARD needs to be prepared correctly.

  • Hi Hirak-san,

thank you so much for your support.

Customer seems like doing correct process...

    But,

I will check back the customer for "and to reflash the SITARA FW no USB port needs to be connected, but the SDCARD needs to be prepared correctly." part though.

Thank you so much taking the time for this.

  • Hi Takashi,

Please keep us informed if this helps!

  • Hi Mr. Hirak,

    Thank you for your support.

I heard customer use Same spec. (3-5 A and 12VDC) adapter but It wasn't come with the Box.

Reason is PSE Law in Japan.(Strict Power supply Law)

    Question is

    * Is that adapter has CPU inside for the device? (Like some battery or Camera's power supply)

I just want to make sure.

I don't think that is problem but if So, it might that is the issue would solve.

Can you let us know about it?

Thank you so much for your kindness.

    best regards

    Takashi Matsumura

  • Takashi-san,

Which power supply are you referring to, specifically? Do you have a model number?

    Regards,

    Philippe Dollo

  • Takashi-san,

NIRScan EVM power requirements are 12V 5A power supply. It can be any power supply capable of providing 12V 3-5A. The EVM does not have any different/special requirements for power supply.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Hirak.

  • Hi Hirak-san,

  • Hi Takashi-san

    Thanks for your confirmation!

Looks like this adapter model is good for NIRScan EVM. I don't see an issue with this power supply.
