DLPA2005: SPI communication with DLPC150

Part Number: DLPA2005
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC150, DLP2010NIR

Hi,

I am interested in programming DLPA2005 using its SPI port. In the reference design the pins are connected to DLPC150 PMIC SPI pins. In the datasheets its said that DLPA2005 can be programmed through DLPC150 but I couldn't find any documents describing how. Actually I couldn't find any information on how to use the PMIC SPI pins on DLPC150. Am I missing something?

Thanks,

Kivanc Hedili

  • Kivanc,

What are you trying to do on the DLPA2005? All the relevant SPI commands sent to the DLPA2005 have an equivalent command that is accessible through the DLP controller. In general, the system is not designed for the user to access the DLPA2005's SPI bus directlly.

In most use cases, you can just send the appropriate command to your controller and it will take care of the rest for you. Let me know if your case differs. You can check the available DLPC150 commands in its programmers guide: https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/dlpu031a/dlpu031a.pdf

  • Hi Philippe,

In our system we have no LEDs so we thought our device should operate in "ACTIVE 1" mode, for which we need to write to chip enable register. Similarly we have no sensors to monitor, so changing the AFE MUX register to "no connect" seems appropriate.

In our current design all the LED drive related pins(VINL, L1, L2, VLED, SW4,5,6, RLIM and RLIM_K) on DLPA2005 are left open, and sensor inputs are pulled down to ground. If this won't result in an internal error/interrupt that prevents other parts to function properly we are OK with not accessing the SPI port.

  • Hi Kivanc,

You can leave VLED, SW4,5,6, RLIM and RLIM_K left open. But please connect the VINL pins. This should not cause any error. Actually, we have a system design example available similar to your use case. Kindly check out the NIRScan Nano Reference Design schematics. This system uses a DLP150, DLP2010NIR and DLPA2005 without any LED connected. You can refer to this schematic for building your own system.
