Hi,
Can I power up my DLP lightcrfater using the USB power from beaglebone? This is mentioned in as an option in the user guide. If so, how do I acheive this? Do I have to just insert the cape on top of the BBB?
Thank you,

Hi Arshiya,
The USB connection with the BeagleBone Black does not provide enough power to power both devices. Page 4 of the DLPDLCR2000EVM user's guide provides more information on powering the EVM.
Thank you,
Chris
Thank you for the response.
The guide says I can power it up using the BBB. See the screenshot below.
And BBB USB has a current of 500mA , that is greater than the 320mA requirement as stated in the guide.
So, my question is , is there no way to power up DLP using BBB? Do I have to absolutely buy an external power supply recommended here: https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/sl-power-electronics-manufacture-of-condor-ault-brands/TE20A0503F01/271-2906-ND/5400184
Hi Arshiya,
It is recommended to use an external 5VDC, 3A power supply. To see if the BeagleBone Black can provide sufficient power, please refer to the BeagleBone Black user guide.
Thank you,
Chris
I am using a DC power supply (5V, 3A) to power up my DLP. However, I am facing an issue at startup.
I have connected the EVM to a 5V, 3A power supply but for some reason the LEDs D2 and D3 keep on blinking and the there is a RED screen that is flashing from the projector. I have used this power supply : https://manualzz.com/doc/en/2137400/velleman-dc-lab-power-supply-0-15v---3a-digital-display-w...
Please see the picture of DLP flashing attached here:
It keeps on booting infinitely, and flashing the red square from teh projector. what could be the reason, there are no other connections made to the DLP.

Hi Arshiya,
The PJ-002A DC Power Jack on the board has a normally-closed switch to ground all terminals of the connector when unplugged. If possible, please separate the switch using a power jack plug.
Thank you,
Chris
Are you referring to this power jack? (in yellow circle)
If possible, please separate the switch using a power jack plug.
Which switch are you referring to and how do I separate it using a power jack plug?
I assumed the pin outputs on the header J3 can be used to power up the DLP and it is powering up actually (when connected to a external PSU). Only issue is it is flickering and unstable.
Thank you,
Arshiya
Hello Arshiya,
Chris will return to you with an answer shortly. Thank you for your patience!
Regards,
Austin
Hi Arshiya,
The external PSU can be used to power the EVM. However, inside the power jack enclosure (J2), there is a normally closed switch which ensures that input power rails are pulled down to ground when there is no barrel jack plugged in.
To separate the switch, please insert a barrel jack plug which fits the dimensions of J2: the DC power supply jack has a 2.5 mm inner diameter and 5.5 mm outer diameter.
Thank you,
Chris
