DLP4710EVM-LC: Need Guidance for Optics

Part Number: DLP4710EVM-LC
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP9000, DLP9500

Hello,

I am planning to purchase the DLP4710EVM-LC but I have some query as mentioned below,

The recommended optical engine of DMD offers 500 Lumen, while I want to illuminate with 8000Lumen.

1. Is it feasible for the DMD mentioned in attached excel sheet?

2. Can TI suggest an optical engine for the same

3. Can we make our own optical engine with it.

4. Can I use Audion with this EMV? Please guide me How to use?

Note:- We have designed our own illumination system. But just to be on the safe side and not to hold any speculations.. that's why I am asking this

Please find the comparison sheet in attachment for your reference.

  • Hi Alpesh,

Welcome to TI E2E Forums! kindly provide us some time, we will look into your query and get back soon!

  • Hello Alphesh,

None these DMD chips can support/withstand 8000 lumen.  For such brightness level you will require DMD chip-set with large diagonal and a robust package similar to DLP9000.

Audion - Our team is not familiar with this application.

Optical engine - You can always make your own optical engine. You can also reach out  to third-party design houses for design and development in case you want to use external resources.

I will transfer this thread to my colleagues in the another  team who can provide  better assistance with this class of product.

    regards,

  • Hello Alpesh,

My colleague Vivek referred this post to me.

The primary limitation is array temperature.  Depending on what source you use it could be quite a bit of radiometric power on the DMD.

Take a look at the data sheets for the DLP9500, DLP9000 or other Advanced Light Control DMDs found here:

    https://www.ti.com/dlp-chip/advanced-light-control/products.html

You will want to look at DMD's with a diagonal at least 0.65" or greater.  Any smaller and the power density will make it difficult to keep the array temperature at a reasonable number.

In most of the data sheets there are example calculations on how to estimate array temperature.

  • Hello Fizix,

    Thanks for the information.

I will check with suggested DLP and get back to you.

I also want to know about how to use Audio with the EVM of the DMD?

  • Hello Alpesh,

Our Advanced Light Control EVMs do not have audio.  I believe our video EVMs do not either.  They are designed for developing an imaging subsystem.

You will have to employ an audio subsystem of your own.
