DLPLCR70EVM: Refresh rate

Part Number: DLPLCR70EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPLCRC410EVM, , DLPC410

Dear TI support,

I have a question about refresh rate of DLPLCR70EVM+DLPLCRC410EVM.

DLP4100 user's guide says maximum binary pattern rate for global reset is 22kHz.

Is this applicable for the case when images are not pre-stored in the DLP?

What we would like to do is to display video images captured by a camera with minimum latency.

I saw for example, DLP6500 has high pattern rate but supports only 120Hz frame rate for display port.

Does DLPLCR70EVM have any similar restrictions?

Thank you.

  • Hello Kawakami-san,

This is the limitation of the controller's speed using global reset.  The DLPC410 does not have any memory buffer.

This rate is determined by the mirror reset & settling time.  The DLPC410EVM does not have any video input subsystem.  You would need to build a video front end.

The DLPLCRC410EVM has a memory slot that is connected to the APPS_FPGA, but it requires the user to program their own memory controller.  It will not overcome the fundamental limitation of 22K binary patterns per second for global operation.

  • Hello Fizix,

Thank you very much for your reply.

Could you tell me more details how to build a video front end?

Is the task the same as programming an FPGA that is used between a camera and a monitor in general?

    Thank you

  • Hello Kawakami-san,

This is one step deeper.  You basically need to create your own formatter that creates "bit-planes" and displays them in a sequence that uses modulation to display these patterns on the DMD.  If you want color display, then it would also need to be an RGB sequence and timing with LED RGB drivers and enables.

You may need to contact one of our design partners to help with this kind of project.
