ZEMAX file of Light Commander

Hi Team,

We've received an inquiry from a customer about Zemax file of Light Commander. It seems we have limited information about this file. Here are the customer's inquiries.

"I just want to know, from the link:e2e.ti.com/.../298218
I have download ZEMAX file of Light Commander.
Could you tell me that the parameters and data of this file are real and after error examination and tolerance processing?
Cuz I think whole system's image quality and efficieny dont well enough, have some aberration and distortion. For another question, the optical back length of projection part absolutely impossible 1000mm, how can I get back length of projection part?"

Can you help us with these inquiries?

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hi Danilo,

Sorry it has taken a while to get back to this post.

Please let myself and Fizix take the action to review these questions. The Light Commander optical design was done quite a while ago, so we will have to research the information on the optical portion of the kit.

Just as a reminder, this optical design was for engineering use and exploration. It was not intended for production use. However, let us see what information we can find this week.

    Regards,

    Matt

  • Hi Matt,

We would really appreciate if you can send us an update to this inquiry.

    Thanks,

    Danilo

  • Hi Danilo,

Fizix has found some information on the optical engine and will reply soon.

Just a reminder: this EVM has not been in production for many years. We can provide the information, but there is currently no plan to make modifications or improvements to this platform.

    Thank you Danilo.

    Regards,

    Matt

  • Hello Danilo,

I was able to get hold of the optical engineer that built up this Zemax file for the Light Commander.  Here is what he communicated back on this:

    1. Could you tell me that the parameters and data of this file are real and after error examination and tolerance processing.
      1. The illumination portion of the file is the nominal design. It is what we designed and built with an external company, LogicPD. The projection lens in the file is not the real lens. We did not get the Zemax file of the F1.4 50mm Nikon lens that came standard with the LightCommander, (that is Nikon proprietary data/info). I did however include a sample SLR lens prescription that could represent the Nikon lens just to show the entire light path from LED to screen.
    2. Cuz I think whole system's image quality and efficiency don't well enough, have some aberration and distortion.
      1. Since we did not have the Nikon lens prescription, yes the aberrations and efficiency on screen will not be 100% accurate.
    3. For another question, the optical back length of projection part absolutely impossible 1000mm, how can I get back length of projection part?"
      1. There seems to be some confusion here. The 1000mm distance is just an example of the throw distance for projection onto a wall. Depending on the lens used, it can be increased or decreased while maintaining good focus (i.e. telephoto vs. macro lens) and produce an image size based on the focal length of the lens attached to the LightCommander.

    I hope this helps,

    Fizix
