DLP5500: DLP LightCommander Zemax files

Part Number: DLP5500
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP7000

Hello, first I want to give my thanks for TI,cuz in E2E I ve found zemax files of LightCommander.

Second I want to ask about details in this files:

As you see, in Zemax files the DMD part has little decentered:

x-decenter is -0.859 and y-decenter is 0.836.

Okay, We know about working module of DMD(DLP5500 in here I remember), did this decenter opreartion use for DMD ± 12° working?Or just mechine assemble data?

Thanks a lot.

  • Hello DearMyShadow,

The decenter is because the active array is decentered slightly relative to the DMD package and the illumination overfill must be aligned to the center of the active array.

  • Thanks a lot.

But I am still not understand, this decenter mean DMD is in the state of 12° tilt?

    Or not?:)

  • Thanks a lot.

But I am still not understand, this decenter mean DMD is in the state of 12° tilt?

    Or not?:)

    Hope your help

  • Hello DearMyShadow,

This means that the center of the DMD array is not at the center of the aperture on the window.  The illumination will be coming in from 24° to match the on pixels that are "on".  The -12° state will send out dump light.  Please review the mechanical drawings at the end of the DLP5500 DMD.

  • Thanks, but I still not understand your post, sorry for my questions:

1.I know the decenter mean the DMD array has angle of aperture on window, but I dont know why illumination light will be 24°, its necessary for incident light to DMD in this situation of LightCommander?

Because in our experiment we cant control ilumination for 24°,and we just let DMD be ±12° to work, and ensure the homogeneity of light on DMD,and the DMD will reflect light for projection lens to imaging.

    its wrong or right?

2.The -12° state means we need to set the state for DMD for this situation, but +12° state is okay?

Or just want to know now this decenter is decribe the DMD is in the state of -12° or not?I mean, if not we need to do some decenter of DMD and have more exactly results in projection.

  • Okay Ive found the details of DMD:

And in zemax they use surface DLL:US_MEMS.DLL, it means now DMD in the +12° state?

But decenter in zemax is quite nothing to related in the ±12° state of DMD, just for  the active array is decentered slightly relative to the DMD package, right?

And for example, if we use DLP7000 instead of DLP5000 here, the position need to be changed or not?For the illumination light for DMD.

  • Hello DearMyShadow,

Yes, you are correct and now understand.  The decenter is the location of the active array area relative to the package.

For each DMD you need to look at the mechanical information at the end of the DMD data sheet to determine how much decentering will be needed.
