DLP9000: GUI crash upon firmware upload

Part Number: DLP9000

We are currently trying to pre-store a pattern to firmware and we're following the instructions on DLP LightCrafter 6500 and 9000 Evaluation Module User's Guide. Unfortunately, whenever we click “Upload” on the Firmware tab, we see all the appropriate green status bars run to completion, with the appropriate text bar messages about programming master and slave, and finally a “Programming completed successfully” message, but then, the GUI pauses with a spinning circle icon, and then crashes. When we re-open the GUI, the operating mode starts as a video mode and the projector projects a full curtain., as expected, but when we click "pre-stored pattern mode" from the operating mode, I expect the original pattern that we designed in Step 1 to display, but nothing shows up. Any advice much appreciated!

  • Hi Gabriel Lipkowitz,

    Welcome to E2E form.

I see two queries from your message. Please find my suggestions.

    1. After firmware programming completed, GUI crashes.

    a. Does this issue happens when uploading firmware you have created or even while uploading TI released firmware.

    b. Does this issue happens always or only some times.

    c. Did you try installing GUI with another PC and checked if same problem is observed.

on the GUI, after firmware upload is completed, controller will be reset. You should be able to see connection status indication turning RED and Then Green. Also you will hear sound from PC when USB connection is reestablished.

    2. pre-stored pattern mode doesn't work as expected.

    a. This could be due to not following required steps to generate firmware with Pre-Stored patterns in it.

    b. Can you please list down steps you are following to generate the Firmware with Pre-Stored pattern images in it. For the pre-stored patterns to start showing, LUT should be updated and then start button should be pressed.

I created this document for Creating batch file and adding to firmware. You can follow this document to see if it can be of any help.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Gabriel,

Can you please confirm if above suggestions helped to resolve issue.

    Thanks,
    Shivakumar

  • Indeed it did! Your step by step document was exceedingly helpful. Though strangely, after walking through your steps, now the steps provided with the official TI user's manual also work...

    Regards,

    Gabriel

  • Hi Gabriel,

Thanks for the confirmation. This will be helpful to other users as well.

    Thanks,
