DLP470TP: DLP470TP and HDR10

I believe an answer has been given here already, e2e.ti.com/.../841322

However I noticed recently that one large projector manufacturer markets their DLP470TP projectors as HDR10 compatible. I would like to know whether this is likely simply marketing and the projector simply accepts 10bit color channels and drops the last two bits of each pixel or whether more color depth is somehow "simulated" without necessarily displaying HDR10.

    I don't expect any info regarding your customers and I have no idea why you took that from my question.

    DLP4710 controller (DLPC6421) does support 10-bit per color channel across image processing pipeline. All HDR related processing should be managed in the front end processor.

    Quoting relevant responses from there:

    HDR10 is not a standard feature offered in the DLPC6421/DLP470TP chipset. Some customers have this feature implemented in their front-end device; this chipset just accept RGB 30-bit data and doesn't support HDR10.

    physical interface is RGB 10-bits, internally the MSB 8-bits only processed.

    What I took from this response was the chipset was able to accept 30-bit data, but only used the 24-bit portion from the data for displaying. Let me know if that is a wrong conclusion and indeed both 30-bit data is received as well as displayed (at that point I believe it is pretty much HDR10 as is displaying 10bits per color channels).

    Thank you for bringing it to our attention. I am sorry for the confusion it may have caused.

    DLPC6421 supports 30 bits (10 bits per color) data processing across image processing pipeline. Your comment about only 24 bits are used to display is not correct, all bits are used to display.

    Some HDR 10 implementation may require additional or special capabilities beyond a traditional projection display, such features are not supported ex . extended gray-scale intensities towards lower gray-scale levels.
