I'm interested in purchasing the LightCrafter 4500. I would like to know the specific dimensions of the projection when it is emitted from the lens. Is the projection symmetrical around the normal axis of the lens? What is the angle of illumination, or how large is the projection at 0.5 meters, and 1 meter? What is the minimum, non distorted focus distance?

Please answer my questions specifically, I as forwarded here from the customer center, which was unable to address any of my questions. Please do not not refer me to the machine vision product that TI sells.

Hello Niall,

You can find this information in table 1-1 of our user's guide. There is 100% offset and a throw ratio of 1.2 (which can be used to calculate the projector size at an arbitrary distance). For example, at 1 meter the screen width will be 1/1.2 = 0.833 meters.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions about this product. Please note it is a pattern projector and additional work will be needed to use it as a 3D scanner.

Is there a way to change the offset to 0%? Do you have any projector solutions with a 0% offset?

Hello Niall,

TI does not have a version of the DLP4500 evaluation module (EVM) with 0% offset. However, some of our design partners may have options.

Specifically Keynote or EKB may have options.

Are there any EVMs that TI sells which have 0% offset? Your wording was unclear if there are EVMs other than the 4500 with no offset.

Hi Niall,

The DLPLCR6500EVM is sold without projection optics. Therefore it could be adapted to the desired offset when you supply the needed optics.

Niall,

As Kyle mentions, Keynote Photonics does have a 0-offset DLP4500-based projector. The LC4500-UV is a monochrome 405nm projector and the LC4500-PRO is the same product with a different (red, green, or blue) LED installed. It uses the same chipset as the TI EVM so it is functionally almost the same with a slightly different form factor and of course 0-offset and only a single-color illuminator.
