DLP2000: How to project a static image using DLPC2000?

Part Number: DLP2000
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPDLCR2000EVM

Hi,

This is Himateja. I am new to the TI platform based boards. Currently I am using a DLP lightcrafter 2000 along with Beaglebone black(A8) as a host processor which is running on TI  RTOS, I have few questions regarding image projection. .

I am looking to feed a static/still image to project via DLPC2000 using beaglebone black

1. What type of image format does the DLP support?

2. As going through the DLPC2000 user guide, it was mentioned that  the host processor can interface with the EVM through: • Parallel I/F video data (via RGB888) • Issuing I 2C commands (via I 2C commands) • Enabling/disabling the EVM (via PROJ_ON_EXT). I understood that all there of them should be used  together to make my DLP work. Is my understanding right?

3. As I am new using 24bit Parallel interface and have no idea how it works.Assuming all the above mentioned ways works together, How to send the RGB values of my picture via those lines? what command should be passed over I2C for configuration the source on DLP?

4. How useful the DLPC2607 GUI tool  for this kind of application?

5. Do I need the help of tools to do it? If so can you recommend the tools as well?

Looking forward for the reply!!

Thanks and regards,

Himateja Katrenikona

Stay safe!!

  • Hi Himateja Katrenikona,

    Welcome to the TI E2E forums and thank you for your interest in DLP. I will look into this and get back to you soon.

    Thank you,

    Chris

  • Hi Himateja,

    Thank you for your patience as Chris investigates this issue.

    Kind Regards,

  • Hi Himateja Katrenikona,

    1. The DLPDLCR2000EVM uses the DLPC2607 controller. The datasheet goes more in depth about the image formats it is capable of supporting.

    2. The Parallel I/F video data is what the host processor intends to display using the EVM, in an RGB888 format. I2C commands can be sent to the controller to enable, disable, or configure different settings on the DLPC2607 controller. PROJ_ON_EXT is a signal that can be sent from the host processor to turn off or on the EVM.

    3. To enable display of an external source, i2c commands need to be sent to the controller. The host processor will send the RGB888 signals to the EVM via its pinout connections. For help on issuing i2c commands, please see the DLPC2607 programmer's guide. Assuming one is using the Beaglebone Black, one can issue these commands to display what is being played on the Beaglebone Black:

    #to set the input source to external video
    $ i2cset -y 2 0x1b 0x0b 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 i

    #to set the input resolution to 640x360 (nHD)
    $ i2cset -y 2 0x1b 0x0c 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x1b i

    4. The EVM comes with its own firmware flashed on the EVM. To request new firmware, please contact us via private message and we can help further. The firmware already available provides a diverse range of features highlighted in the user's guide.

    5. The Beaglebone Black is primarily focused on linux development. To use TI RTOS with the Beaglebone Black may require Code Composer Studio. For this, please see the documentation provided on ti.com.

    Thank you,

    Chris
