DLP4710EVM-LC: Replacement for LightCrafter 6500

Just to be sure: would the DLP4710EVM-LC actually be the device from your LightCrafter product portfolio that offers the highest 8-bit greyscale frame rate, i.e. there are no modules (apart from the LC6500 that reached EOL) that provide higher frame rates? Thanks!

That may depend on your requirements. You can achieve higher 8-bit greyscale frame rate with the DLP2010-LC EVM (which gets you 360 Hz 8-bit rate) at the cost of resolution (the DLP2010LC runs at 854x480 WVGA). Do you have a full list of requirements?

Our requirements are basically what I mentioned above:

• pixel accurate presentation (pattern mode!)
• pattern stream provided continuously by HDMI or DP
• high 8-bit greyscale framerates in pattern mode (360 Hz would be brilliant)
• precise frame-wise trigger out

the lower resolution of the DLP2010-LC EVM would be less of a concern in our case. Since we would strongly modify the optics anyway, other aspects are also less important.

Could you confirm that we can achieve 8-bit greyscale framerates in pattern mode at 360 Hz with the DLP2010-LC EVM? I actually have difficulties to extract this information from the data sheets.

I have a follow up question regarding the triggering:

I installed the DLP2010 GUI tool and had a look at the trigger settings. When choosing RGB illumination at 8 bit depth (to achieve 360 Hz subframe-rate for 120 Hz RGB frame-rate) it looks to me that I can only set a trigger per complete RGB frame, and not per subframe. I.e., I would not get a precise trigger for the start of each subframe. Is that correct? And is it also correct that it would be the same for the DLP4710EVM-LC, i.e., also here I can get no information about the start of each color subframe? Looking at it from the other side: if I need a trigger for every frame I would still only achieve 120 Hz with the  DLP2010-LC EVM, right?

You can use the rising edge of trigger out2 to capture the start of each subframe. The functionality of Trigger Out1,2 signals are same across DLPC3470, DLPC3478 and DLPC3479. 

Does your application usecase requires RGB pattern display only or can it work with the monochrome (only one color) pattern display as well. Please check out the monochrome pattern display functionality of the DLPC347X chipset as well.

Would you be so kind to explain to me which settings in the GUI tool would lead to a trigger edge for each subframe? I did not manage to find the correct settings. I am currently running the GUI tool without a LightCrafter conected, but I suspect that the settings could still be done.

I assume that I need the illumination setting on "RGB" to get the full 360 Hz. But then trigger 2 goes high for the whole RGB frame. How can I change that?

Yes of course I had a look at the User's Guide. While it is absolute possible that I missed something, I did not find any hints how to establish a trigger out for every subframe in the respective paragraph (4.3.1.) of the document. In any case, it would be very kind if you could give me more info on how to properly set up the trigger or point me a little bit more specific where to find that info (e.g. in the above mentioned doc). Thank you very much!
