DLPLCR9000EVM: Mounting

Part Number: DLPLCR9000EVM

Hello,

I'm looking for a way to mount the DLPLCR9000EVM. I'm currently looking into replacing the back plate (#10 in diagram below) with a mounting plate of my own.

Would there be anything to look out for when doing this action? or is there another possible way to mount the DLPLCR9000EVM?

Best,

Jimmy

  • Hello Jimmy,

This direct clamping method does require careful control of the torque applied to the bolts (12) to prevent excessive pressure on the DMD itself.  The forces are in the DLP9000 data sheet specs.

  • Hi Fizix,

What about for (11)? (11) would be the only ones I would remove, to replace (10) with a plate of my own. (12) would remain as they are.

  • Hello again Jimmy,

You are correct, plate (10) is only connected to heat slug (8).  It is just an extra heat spreader to increase the surface area of (8).  It sounds like you want to connect a larger area spreader.  In that case, the torque on screws (11) are not critical, other than to ensure good thermal contact with (8).

However, as a mounting surface, the weight of the EVM would be putting torque on spring (9) and will cause uneven pressure on the thermal interface between (8) and the back of the DMD.  We do not recommend this method of mounting.

Something that connects or clamps to the plate (number not shown) in front of plate (6), would be the better method.
