DLP lightCrafter 4500: Stretched output Image

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP4500

Dear All,

We are facing problem in displaying the bmp image properly in DLPLightCrafter4500.

We used a image of the circle to test the Lcr4500.

Here is the Input file

Here is the screen shot of the file after conversion

Here is the screen shot during pattern upload

But if you see the converted image it looks like this.

The problem here is even though the circle is round, the projector displays stretched image. We want to display image of circle as it is without stretching. Can anybody help us in solving this problem.

  • Hello Ramu,

The reason the circle appears stretch is due to the diamond orientation of the mirrors in the DLP4500 DMD. A typical image file assumes the pixels are orthogonal. If you look at the DLP4500 datasheet (http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/dlps028a/dlps028a.pdf) on page four, you'll see how the mirrors are oriented and how rows and columns are arranged.

For example, what would normally be a straight line for pixels in an orthogonal layout, would appear as a zig-zagged line on the DMD. The User's Guide (http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/dlpu011b/dlpu011b.pdf) in Figure 1-5 "Diamond Pixel for Vertical, Horizontal, and Diagonal Lines" demonstrates this.

Let me know if this isn't clear or you have any other questions!

    Best regards,

    Blair
