Synchronisation/ trigger possibilities

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC3439

Hello everybody,

first of all, thank you for the great technique.

We recently purchased the LightCrafter Display 4710 to gain some experience. Now we want to use the projector in a project and for this, we have to clarify the possibilities of synchronisation between the projector and an additional camera. The point is, that we have to visualize alternately an arbitrary (changing) image followed by a black image.

From our point of view, we can do this by 2 ways.

Option #1: We use an external trigger hardware that activates the illumination of the projector to visualize the current image, and the trigger simultaneously activates the exposure of the camera. For this, we need a trigger input at the projector hardware and the software API. Maybe we can use/trigger the LED driver to start/ stop the illumination? Maybe we can directly modulate the voltage to enable/disable the illumination?

Option #2: The projector will start the illumination of the current image and the projector triggers the camera to start the exposure. Here, we need a trigger output signal. By using the hdmi input channel to send an image stream to the projector, how can we ensure that really every image is illuminated?

Hope, you can help us and suggest a solution for the described issue.

Thank you very much.

Best regards,
Christian

    Hello Christian,

Thank you for your interest in our DLP Technology.

We normally use the HDMI Vsync signal as a trigger signal for an additional camera. This would be the second option pointed out by you.

Unfortunately our current software has the output for the vysnc signal located on TSTPT_2 of the DLPC3439. This test point is not accessible on our current DLP LightCrafter Display 4710 EVM. Are you planning on starting your own design? If yes, this could be implemented in your new design.

We currently don't have any support available for external trigger hardware.

Please let me know if I can assist with any further questions.

    Best regards,

    Nadine
