Lightcrafter timeout issue

Is there any built-in timeout for the TI Lightcrafter when communicating through TCP/IP ? The device seems to stop communicating with the PC after a 5-10 mins. The only get it to work again is to do hard reset on the Lightcrafter. This also happens when using the GUI program from TI.

Also, the device seems to take an arbitrary amount of time (sometimes a very long delay) before we can establish a connection after starting/restarting the device. We just have to keep clicking on the "Connection" button in the GUI and wait for it to respond.

  • Hello Ganesh,

Welcome to DLP& MEMS section of TI E2E community.

When the LightCrafter is connected to the PC, it should get connected momentarily once the PC detects the "New Hardware".

I have not come across this issue while running the scripts as well. One reason might be the USB driver. Can you please help me understand your set-up so I can troubleshoot further.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Divya

  • Divya,

Connecting the Lightcrafter wasn't a plug n play for us. Definitely not a momentary event. Usually takes 2-3 mins before the device can be connected through the GUI program. Lightcrafter only works in the USB3.0 port on my development machine and none of the USB2.0 ports available on the PC. We tried the device on three different computers running Windows 7 64-bit professional. Except on one PC (unfortunately it is not a development machine I could use), Lightcrafter doesn't show up in the device manager when plugged into the USB2.0 ports. I followed the instructions posted by TI experts on the forum to install it on the PC. We have tried the same on one other PC and the device seems to work only when plugged into USB3.0 port. Are there are any specific hardware requirements like motherboards etc that support Lightcrafter.

  • Ganesh,

It looks like there is no problem with your set-up. Can you try connecting the LightCrafter to PC with a USB hub in between rather than connecting it directly.

I will further look into the details meanwhile.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Divya

  • Divya,

We tried a USB hub and a few different USB cables. Not much luck.

  • Ganesh,

Is the external USB hub powered or non-powered? If its not powered, Can you try connecting through a powered USB hub?

Also, I wanted to let you know that this solution is only a workaround and we are digging deeper into this issue.

I will update you in a couple of days with the progress made.

    Regards,

    Divya

  • It is a powered USB hub.

  • Ganesh,

We have been running different test set-ups, all of them have been working properly with the use of a USB hub in between.

Can you provide your PC details and also USB hub model#, so we can duplicate your set-up here.

    Thanks for your cooperation.

  • Divya,

Here is my development system information. The motherboard is ASUS Sabertooth X58 LGA 1366 Intel.

OS Name    Microsoft Windows 7 Professional
    Version    6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
    System Type    x64-based PC
    Processor    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU         950  @ 3.07GHz, 3068 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
    BIOS Version/Date    American Megatrends Inc. 0505, 9/3/2010
    SMBIOS Version    2.5
Hardware Abstraction Layer    Version = "6.1.7601.17514"

The USB hub is a Belkin 7 port USB2.0 hub (Mfr Part #: F5U259-ME).

Also, we could get the device to work on a Windows Vista running 64 bit Home Premium (Gateway PC) after some issues with the USB2.0  (Code 10 error). This is a 3 year old machine and the Lightcrafter seems to work OK with USB2.0. Like I mentioned in my earlier post, Lightcrafter works only when plugged into USB3.0 port and not the USB2.0.

    Thanks,

    -Ganesh

  • Divya,

Just to be clear, "Like I mentioned in my earlier post, Lightcrafter works only when plugged into USB3.0 port and not the USB2.0". This is for the PCs using the  ASUS Sabertooth X58 LGA 1366 Intel motherboards.

    Thanks

    Ganesh

  • Ganesh,

As an update, the USB issue has not been resolved yet. The team is working hard on this in order to make the user experience better with the LightCrafter kit.

Thanks for your patience and I will keep you posted with the update.

    Regards,

    Divya
