DLP® LightCrafter™ 9000 Upload firmware: missing .img file

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC900

Hello,

I need to change the firmware of my DLP® LightCrafter™ 9000 to enable HDMI Vido mode at boot up.  I know I can do this by uploading a batch file to run at boot that switches the Operating mdoe to "Video Mode" and switches the IT6535 receiver to HDMI Mode.  I also see that the Power Up Defautls section in the Firmware tab has a checkbox to enable the HDMI receiver (not sure it this switches  the Operating mdoe to "Video Mode" as well).

So it seems that I have two options that require the firmware to be updated.  So I enable the HDMI receiver in the Power Up Defautls section of the FirmWare Tab and click the [Update Firmware] button and it tells me: "ERROR: Choose teh firmwar image to be updated".  I [OK] that dialog and clock the [Browse] button to load a Firmware File, a file selection dialog for ".img" files comes up in this directory: C:\Texas Instruments-DLP\DLPC900REF-SW-2.0\DLPC900REF-GUI but there are no .img files anywhere in C:\Texas Instruments-DLP.

How do I get a copy of the current firmware (.img file) so I cna update it?

Thanks

Andrew

  • Hi Andrew,

    Here are a few answers/tips:

    1. Enabling the HDMI/DP receiver (IT6535) will not automatically switch the operating mode to video mode. Switching the video mode must also be included in the batch file.

    2. The firmware is actually downloaded separately from the software bundle (sorry if that is confusing), it can be found on this page

    3. Just as a heads-up, switching to Video Mode requires the video source (HDMI or Display Port) to be "locked" first. As the source will have to lock after startup, you will have to delay before switching the mode to Video Mode.

  • Trevor,
I downloaded the firmware and was able to create a new version of the firmware that runs a batch file at boot time to switch the 9000 into video mode. This allows my application to work. Thanks!

The workflow for doing this is a little strange.
    1) Upload a set of firmware files. This overwrites the firmware on the 9000!
    2) Make your changes
    3) Update the Firmware. This creates a new set of timestamped firmware files on the disk.
    4) Upload the new set of firmware files. This overwrites the firmware on the 9000.

This workflow was not evident from the documentation. Since there is no ability to Download the firmware from the 9000 it is essential that the Firmware Tag be used. IT would be nice for this to be in the documentation.

  • Trevor,
How long of a delay is required?
  • The more general question, "Is there a command to 'lock"? If not what command causes a 'lock' and what delay is required to ensure the lock is formed?
  • Hi Andrew,

There is not a command to lock. The lock happens automatically after the source is connected. There is a status that can be read using firmware (and GUI) 2.0 or later. This status can be polled to see if the device has locked. There is information on this status in the new version of the DLPC900 Programmer's Guide, which should be posted online in the coming week.

    Best regards,
    Trevor
