DLP660TE: Need to know if the new 0.66 DMD gives discrete 4k, or if it's a pixel shifted image.

I've been looking at this new DLP chip for a year-ish, or so. My main question is, does the DMD do a very fast diagonal image shift like the JVC/Epson offerings, or is this so fast that it is giving a literal UHD resolution, in real time with no image/pixel shifting? I've gone through the released technical documents, but they seem to either be a very deep dive into the the physical/electrical workings of the DLP processor, or a very high level that doesn't specifically say there is no image shifting. 

We are thinking about upgrading our conference rooms to 150-200" screens and having it at a true 4k display would be amazing.

    The DLP 4K UHD solution uses the high speed of the DLP 4K UHD DMD chip, along with advanced image processing from the digital display controller, as well as an optical actuator, to deliver more than 8 million pixels to the screen with just 4 million mirrors. Each mirror is capable of switching on the order of microseconds, creating two distinct addressable pixels on the screen during every frame to deliver 4K UHD resolution.

    Is the 0.66 DMD "discrete 4K UHD"? Absolutely. 4K UHD solutions must deliver 8 megapixels to the screen. The DLP 4K UHD solution achieves this and meets the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) standard, in addition to being classified as a 4K UHD solution by PMA Research.

  • I'm curious because the comparison shots from AVS Forum show that there are overlapping pixels, which would signify it being a pixel shifted image. Is this a flawed test, or is there something else?

    We do use an optical actuator in our DLP660TE system to pixel shift the > 4 million mirrors on the DMD to >8 million positions on the screen. Each of these on-screen pixels is individually addressable, and as I've said, meets the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) standard, in addition to being classified as a 4K UHD solution by PMA Research.
