DLP2000: How to display picture on DLP2000EVM

Part Number: DLP2000
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC2607,

Hi All,

My customer is using DLP® LightCrafter™ Display 2000 Evaluation Module. And he asks if it possible to display his own picture by I2C command. Or how to add pictures to flash? Thank you very much.

  • Kevin,

Thanks for your interest in our DLP products.

Unfortunately, you cannot display images over I2C. However, it is possible to rewrite the flash.

The DLPC2607 programmer's guide (at www.ti.com/.../dlpu013.pdf) contains a memory map of the onboard flash in Appendix C. Using the flash interface documentation found in section 2.3, you may be able to rewrite the portion of flash containing the optical test pattern image. I recommend backing up your flash image in case you attempt this.

    I hope this helps.

  • Dear Philippe,

How to rewrite the flash ? Is there any tutorial or examples ?

    Thanks.

  • Lin,

Unfortunately, the DLPC2607 programmer's guide (link above) provides the most robust documentation of I2C access to the flash memory. In order to rewrite the flash memory with a new splash image, you must do so over I2C.

If you have a particular question about this process, let me know.

  • Dear Philippe,

    Thanks for your reply.

I can not find the address map of the CMT in the dlpu013. I mean how the bits are arranged exactly in address x0000,B400 and how CMT is maps to the bit plane in the sequence set.

I also not sure the address map of the bit plane of the sequence set in address x0000,A000.

Is there any document can help me to understand those things? I have read the dlpu004b.pdf .

    Thanks.

    Lin

  • Lin,

Unfortunately, the CMT tables in particular are tied to the sequences in the system. It is not recommended to try to manually alter these lookup tables in memory. We do not support replacing the CMT tables in this manner.

What are you trying to do with your system? Perhaps there is an alternative solution.

  • Dear Philippe,

    Thank you for your reply.

I want to display visual stimuli by controlling the bit-plane and LED light source directly with bypassing the spatial and temporal sequence optimazation.

Could you give me some advices?

    Thanks.

    Happy New Year!

  • Lin,

    Happy New Year!

The behavior you are trying to implement may not be within the scope of the DLP2000's basic capabilities. If you want advanced control of the LED and pixel behavior, you may want to take a look at the LightCrafter 4500 as an option for your development. As one of our DLP Pico Sensing products, it provides the functionality you seek that may not be available on DLP Pico Display products like the DLP2000.

    I hope this helps.
