TUSB3200A: Another question about: TUSB3200A VS TUSB3200

Part Number: TUSB3200A

Hello all,

I linked to a quite similar question https://e2e.ti.com/support/dsp/c5000/f/109/t/666140?TUSB3200-TUSB3200A-VS-TUSB3200.

I have the same problem. We have an old design with the old http://www.ti.com/product/TUSB3200A.

This one is obsoleted, also the older one TUSB3200 but we can get some of this to go on with the existing design.

As far as we understand they are more less similar but the channel mapping is different.

We use 8 channel out with TUSB3200A. If I pass a interleaved PCM data stream 7.1 from the host PC to the device the channel mapping is like this:

Ch1 -> LEFT

Ch2 -> RIGHT

Ch3 -> CENTER

Ch4 -> SUB

Ch5 -> REAR-L

Ch6 -> REAR-R

Ch7 -> SIDE-L

Ch8 ->SIDE-R

Or if you just want to play back STEREO:

Channel 1 is LEFT:

Channel 2 is RIGHT:

Which is like expected

If we replace the current 3200A with the older one 3200 the channel mapping changes to:

Ch1 -> LEFT

Ch2 -> REAR-L

Ch3 -> RIGHT

Ch4 -> REAR-R

Ch5 -> CENTER

Ch6 -> SIDE-L

Ch7 -> SUB

Ch8 ->SIDE-R

Or if you just want to play back STEREO:

Channel 1 is LEFT:

Channel 3 is RIGHT:

Which is not expected and a problem or us.

So our questions are:

  1. Is the observation correct and the channel mapping is one of the difference between those two chips ?
  2. can we change this via firmware ?
  3. Any other suggestions ?

Thank you very much !

With best regards,

Mark

  • Hi user5643127,

    This product TUSB3200A is no longer available and not longer supported.
    It is replaced by TMS320C5533 – The device has SIMILAR FUNCTIONALITY but is not functionally equivalent to the compared device.
    TI does not recommend using this part in a new design.

  • Hi Tsvetolin Shulev,

    thank you very much for your answer.

    I'm totally aware that all of the producs I mentioned are 1. no longer available and not longer supported.

    Our designs is old and we want to keep it for one more production if possible ...

    To clarify. We right now need to use the very old TUSB3200 because it is still available. So I'm talking about the TUSB3200 not NOT TUSB3200A

    The information for this device lacks for some specific details which is bad.

    The question is still:

    can the channel mapping of the DMA to the CODEC be changed ?

    right now it is like this:

    Interleaved stream to USB: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
    Result on CODEC 1 3 5 7 2 4 6 8

    So the first 4 channels go to the odd channel numbers

    The other to the even channel numbers.

    What we of course want is a 1:1 mapping

    Hope someone could help us. We got the repose from our supplier (he told us he asked TI direct for this issue) that the chips can be replaced 1:1 ..

    Any help would be great !

    Thanks you very much

    Best regards

    Mark
