CCS3.3 : problem on start CCS3.3 with DM6467EVM

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO

Hello

When the CCS3.3 starts It outputs error window which has "Cannot load DSP device driver C:\CCStudio_v3.3\drivers\tixds560icepick_c.dvr. Please

 run the Setup Program and select a different driver".

I installed "setup_DM6467_CSP_v3.3.1008.exe" from TI update site and have selected "DM6467 XDS560 Emulator" in CCS setup program .

I'm using XDS560R emulator made by the Spectrumdigital.

System configuration structure which is located most left pannel of CCS setup is below.

DM6467_xds560 ->

               ICEPICK_C_0 ->

                           Subpath_0->

                                    ARM926_0

                          Subpath_1->

                                   C6400PLUS_0

                          Subpath_2->

                                  ARM968_0

                         Subpath_3->

                                  ARM968_1

thanks.

  • mmm, I do not have a 560 emulator to try this out, but normally we recommend that when using SD emulator, you get the drivers from SD website; their drivers include a DM6467 configuration.

    http://support.spectrumdigital.com/ccs3x_xds560r/

  • Typically anything that is designated as just 'XDS560 Emulator' is referring to the TI XDS560 PCI-based emulator and is not compatible with the more common USB-based emulators from Blackhawk and Spectrum Digital.

    You will need to download the Spectrum Digital emulation drivers for the XDS560R as Juan suggested.

  • It was cleared myself. On the DM6467 CSP release note we must install CCS servicepack 6 (or higher) before using DM6467CSP.

    " CCS 3.3 RTM + SR6 (or higher) must be installed before the patch is applied. ........."

    Thank you.^^

  • Hi Lee,

    I have downloaded the trial version of ccs 3.3 (Code_Composer_Studio_v3.3_Build_3.3.38.2_FET). I got the same error as what you experienced saying "ccs could not load the dsp device driver, Please run the setup and choose a different driver". how can i get the latest service pack to solve this issue?

  • Which emulator are you using?  If it is an emulator from Spectrum Digital, or Blackhawk-DSP, you will need to get a driver for that emulator from their websites.

    Spectrum Digital

    Blackhawk-DSP

  • I have installed next files and it is operating well.

    CCS3.3 -> Code composer service pack -> dm6467 chip support package -> xds560R emulator driver

    The nexts were used on my work.

    CCS service pack : CCS_v3.3_SR11_81.6.2.exe

    chip support package : setup_DM6467_CSP_v3.3.1008.EXE

    560R driver : setupXDS560RCCSPlatinum_v30329A.exe

    1. the proper DVR files which had issued in my previous work  are just installed by CCS service pack.

    2. 560R driver (fn.sys) file is installed to "c:\CCStudio_v3.3\specdig\xds510usb\" by the setupXDS560RCCSPlatinum_v30329A.exe.

       Normally, we think 560R sys file will be copyed in c:\CCStudio_v3.3\specdig\xds560r\ . But "xds560r.inf" and "sdusb2em.sys" are

      existed in xds510usb directory.

       Thus you must select fn.sys and fn.inf files manually on the Driver Select Dialogue window.

    3. I think you can get the CSP and 560R driver very easily ,but the CCS service pack has some difficulty to get it.

         a. you can get link from "DM6467 Chip Support Package (CSP) Release Notes" appeared after install the CSP.

         b. Or ,   https://www-a.ti.com/downloads/sds_support/CCSv3.3ServiceReleases.htm

           Maybe, it is secured site.....

         c. If you can't access secured site send e-mail to me.....

  • I have the same problem, and I did the same CCS3.3 -> Code composer service pack -> dm6467 chip support package , except I have the blackhawk usb-560m.

    Then I did try to build a board, but when I choose ICEPICK_C, the infos show "Code Composer Studio Setup was unable to load this device driver. Make sure that the file exists and that it is a valid GTI device driver". What's that mean. Thanks.

    Ben Yuan

  • I think you should check the version of the CCS service pack which was installed by you. The below is from realease note of 560R driver.

    I can see it after installing for 560R driver package. In case the XDS560R , ver 11 is required.

    "Emulators Supported:

    XDS560R

    Code Composer Version Supported: CCS 3.3, Service Release 11 (SR11) or higher required to support most new configurations

    Product Release:         3.03.29

    Release Date:              25-Oct-2008

    .................."

  • I did have the latest service release 11 installed. But I'm using the BH-USB-560M emulator, not XDS560R. Is this the problem?

  • what do you select  "Available Factory boards" in the CCS setup?

    In the "family" tap , the  "DM6467" which is created by the DM6467EVM CSP does not have any 560R board item. There are only 560 PCI supported item.

    You shoud select  the "DAVINCI HD EVM SDXDS560R USB..."  in the "C64x+" family in CCS setup.

    Good luck...

  • I also happen to use the Blackhawk USB 560m emulator, you should have a DM6467 configuration available in CCS setup already if you have installed suitable (new enough) Blackhawk emulator drivers, see the screenshot below for my configuration.

    Note that to connect to the DSP you have to release it from reset using a GEL file command.

  • It looks like my CCS3.3 is lower than yours. Also no DM6467 show up in CCS setup, as attached image.  When I try to install the latest BH-USB-560M driver "HEMU-SetupCCS_v3.3.200.3.exe", a message box poped up shown:

    "USCIF Installed : V35.23.10.2  This Update Requires: V35.24.0.3

    The USCIF version instaled for CCStudio is LESS THAN the version needed by this driver installation and XDS560(tm)-class JTAG emulators.

    YOU DO NOT NEED THIS UPDATE

    ................................

    So maybe there are some version mismach between CCS3.3 and latest BH560m driver. What's your BH-USB-560M driver's version? Thanks a lot guys for your helps.

    Ben

    ..........."

  • I am not sure of my BH driver version, it was the newest for CCS 3.3 as of about 6 months ago. I think your problem stems from your CCS version, I would suggest going into the help menu of your CCS and checking for updates on the update advisor site. I am currently running CCS SR9 though as long as you are updating I would go for the latest SR11 and than try to update to the latest BH driver package, bringing yourself up to the latest version will likely resolve the issue.

  • This is a common issue with new devices.  Here is our shortcut to the problems users see with new devices and boards.  I hope this information helps!

    1.)  First, you should make sure that the CCStudio version you are using supports the device you want to debug.  For example, CCS v3.3 has "11" service releases since it was released over two years ago.  In order to debug the DM6467 you need to have the correct SR level installed (or the CSP).  Other wise you won't have the support for debugging in CCStudio or the files that are used by emulator imports.  So, you should probably use the update advisor (main menu Help->Check for Updates) to download TI support for the device 1st.

    2.) Once you have the correct support from TI for the device you are using, then you can download the emulation drivers that support this version of CCStudio and the device you are trying to debug (if they are different).  In the above case, you would need our Blackhawk CCS v3.3 drivers for SR2-11 that contains the DM6467 imports

    3.) If you are using a DSK or EVM, you may need to install the target board content that includes examples, GEL files used by CCSetups, etc.

    4.) Finally, make sure you enter the correct GEL files into CCsetup for the emulator you are using.  If the GEL files are not part of the updates from TI, and from the board manufacturer, then the imports may not have GEL files assigned.  These GEL files are supplied by the EVM/DSK manufacturer and imports that use them may have errors if the files don't exist.

     At the time of this reply, CCStudio v3.3 SR11 is available and you should update to that for new devices.

  • Finally, It's OK now.  As you guys have mentioned. I need to install the Service Release 11. For some reason, the installation didn't complete right.  Then I removed CCS3.3 and have it reinstalled, then installed CCStudio v3.3 SR11, then DM6467_CSP_v3.3.1008, then BHEMU-SetupCCS_v3.3.200.3. So, finally, CCS3.3, DVEVM6467 and BH-USB-560M work with each other now!!

    Thanks a lot to you guys. Your advice really helpful.[:D]
