DS90UB921-Q1: Hardware Integration and path to 4K

Part Number: DS90UB921-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UB940-Q1

I have several questions regarding TI's SerDes video interface. It looks like the DS90UB921-Q1 (serializer) and DS90UB940-Q1 gives a solution to start with. My questions are:

  1. Is there a path/roadmap to 4K (or better) video transmission?
  2. Schematics for the dev boards list Rosenberger connectors D4S20D-40ML5-Y and D4S20D-40ML5-Z, which I cannot find an exact match for on their site, and the link in TI documentation is dead. Rosenberger lists D4S20D-40MA5- as a valid part number. I understand the last character is the key, but there is one more character difference. I see LAF-101-1000-Y-Z as potentially the cable to mate the two connectors/dev boards together. Is that correct? Is a cable like this to connect a serializer and deserializer available through TI, or we do we need to go through Rosenberger or other supplier?
  3. Is there any recommended standard cabling or input/output video devices to connect to the dev boards listed above? I do have some devices but the terminal connectors/cables and pinout on your boards and mine are not necessarily standard for the Parallel and MIPI interfaces so I'm wondering the best way to connect them. Would individual jumper wires work - I wouldn't think so.

Thanks for the support.

  • Hi Nick,

For roadmap questions, please reach out to you local TI FAE.

For cable and connectors, you would have to go through Rosenberger and cable venders. The D4S20D-40MA5 is ok for the application. They have the same electrical spec. The cable also looks correct.

There's not really a standard cable for these input/outputs. It heavy depends on the video source and display and the clock frequency. Do you have more information to share on that?

Since these signals may be clocked up to 95MHz, jumper wires typically would not work.

  • Thanks for the response. Can you point me in the direction of my local TI FAE (I am based in NYC).

For the Rosenberger cable, it looks like I have to get it through Rosenberger directly?

My input to the parallel Serializer would be from something like Gennum GS3471, and my MIPI output from the Deserializer would go into a Snapdragon 8xx processor.

    Thanks again for the help,

    -Nick

  • Hi Nick,

Yes, you would need to get the cable from Rosenberger.

Parallel ribbon cable would work but you may need to customize the pinout.

I have checked with the team, we can't share roadmap information publicly - stay tuned to TI.com for new product announcements

  • Is there a non-public way to discuss roadmap or other potential solutions not commercialy available, with NDA etc?

    Thanks,

    -Nick

  • Hi Nick,

I will try to loop you in with a local team offline.

  • Still waiting for contact for roadmap or non-commericial parts to support 4K. Also I told that the D4S20D-40ML5-Y part number on the DS90UB940-Q1 dev is not valid/complete and that the Y is a placeholder for a keying orientation (A-F, Z). DS90UB921-Q1 uses D4S20D-40ML5-Z. Is -Z used on all of your boards?

    Thanks,

    -Nick

  • Hi Nick,

The connectors on EVM will depends on when they are built. Most of the newer EVMs like the UH949 / UH941AS devices uses D4S20D-40ML5-Z.

Please accept my private messaging request on E2E.
