THVD1451: Device with Similar Performance to ADM3490 RS-485 Transceiver

Part Number: THVD1451
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65HVD1474, SN65LBC179, THVD1551

Hello team,

I am looking for a TI cross-reference part for the ADM3490 3.3 V, Low Power, RS-485/RS-422 Transceiver (Full Duplex, 10 Mbps)

I have seen both the THVD1451 and SN65HVD1474 referenced as crosses previously, with the primary advantages of these devices being integrated IEC ESD protection, integrated IEC EFT (noise immunity), a higher signaling rate, and a wider Vin range.

Is one of these devices still the most similar device TI offers to the MAX490?

Thank you,

Austin Allen

  • Hi Austin,

It looks like SN65HVD1474 would be one of the better choices for this as it more closely matches the slew rate of the replaced device. While the higher slew rates of faster devices has the benefit of allowing faster communication, it also introduces more high-frequency energies to the system which are more easily reflected by sub-optimal terminations.

Depending on the supply voltage needed, I would recommend either SN65HVD1474 (3.3V) or SN65LBC179 (5.0V). If it's required to have one transceiver work with both supply levels, the THVD1451 or THVD1551 would likely be the best solution.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
