TCAN1042-Q1: Do we have the pin to pin device with HVSON package to replace TJA1021

Part Number: TCAN1042-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN1042H

Hi

I would like to ask do we have the pin to pin device with HVSON package to replace TJA1021? Customer would like to change the TJA1021(must HVSON package) because of the supply shortage, thank you

  • Hi,

Firstly the pins of the TCAN1042 do match the pins of the TJA devices however there is no SPLIT pin on the TCAN1042. This pin is no longer needed to pass emission certifications so depending on what device you purchase it is now used as a NC or as a VIO pin. This is the same for the TJA devices.

You can buy the TCAN1042 in the VSON package, it would be called the TCAN1042DRBQ1. It looks like there is still a small supply from some of our distributors.

The are slight differences in the electrical characteristics. Here are some of the differences that I found.

    • For the TJA1042 the under voltage detection on VCC is lower than the UVCC of the TCAN1042H: 3.5V vs 3.8V
    • The minimum VIO for the TJA1042 is lower than the TCAN1042: 2.8V v.s 3.0V
    • The VOL and VIL for the devices are also measured differently.

These differences however are minimal and I wouldn't expect there to be an issue in replacing these devices. I would still recommend that you go through the electrical characteristics of the TCAN1042 and make sure that it meets the specifications of your system.

If you send me an email at c-ayoub@ti.com I can send you a competitive analysis that was put together to compare these two devices.

If this answered your question don't forget to hit the button. If you have anymore questions let me know.

    Best,

    Chris

  • I misread the question, the best device to replace the TJA1021 is the TLIN1021.

Since this thread is being handled offline I am going to close the thread.
