TCAN4550-Q1: PEPS application recommendation for CAN

Part Number: TCAN4550-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN1044-Q1, TLIN1029-Q1

Hi team,

My customer is looking for PEPS application CAN solution and I've found on TI.com have recommneded TCAN4550-Q1, TCAN1044-Q1, TLIN1029-Q1.

Could you help to share when would we choose TCAN4550-Q1 verus TCAN1044-Q1? And when to choose LIN device?

What's the latest trend?

Thanks.

James

  • James,

The TCAN4550-Q1 is a CAN controller AND transceiver integrated into one package. This would work if the solution calls for an upgrade to CAN FD but the user does not want to invest in a dedicated CAN FD controller, or if the user is just looking to consolidate parts on the board.

The TCAN1044-Q1 is a simple 8-pin CAN transceiver that translates messages from a controller to the CAN bus and visa versa. This device would be helpful in the case where a controller already exists in the system, and they want to transmit to a CAN bus.

The TLIN1029-Q1 is LIN transceiver, and typically LIN is used for slower, less urgent and non-safety related communication in the vehicle. Information like sensors for climate control, window and seat control, etc. would go on LIN.

So ultimately it just depends on which part of the passive entry passive start system you are working with, but all three devices would be helpful.
