SN65HVD256: Duplex operation

Part Number: SN65HVD256
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN1042V-Q1

Hello Guys,

Good day.

Just like to confirm if SN65HVD256 is half/full duplex operation?

TCAN1042V-Q1 seems to be pinout and function compatible with SN65HVD256, do you know if this one is either half or full duplex operation too?

Thanks and regards,

Art

  • Art,

In general, the CAN protocol is half duplex. Only one transmitter at any given time is allowed on the CAN bus. If more than one CAN node tries to transmit, the nodes will then "compete" for priority through arbitration, where one will win and begin transmitting its data. All CAN transceivers are only half duplex because of the protocol only allowing for one transmitter.
