Hello, I have some questions for you from DP83826EVM.

I want to check various signals while changing the register. I have checked up to register read and write through USB-2-MDIO.

1. In EVM, MAC Interface was set to MII, but if you want to check the waveform in RMII Slave mode, can you just change the register value?
Or is it necessary to connect a MAC capable of CLK output to the PHY? I'm not sure how exactly.

2. I want to proceed with the MII loopback test using the EVM kit. Can I just change the register of the relevant area and connect the LAN cable to RJ45 to proceed with the loopback test?

    1. You can change the device to RMII Slave mode through the register settings. In addition, the MAC will need to provide a 50 MHz CLK output to the PHY. You will have to remove R40 and put a 0 ohm resistor for R107 (connected to XI pin), and use the headers to provide the clock signal.
    2. Yes. You can set MII loopback mode through register writes. Afterwards, connect the cable to the RJ45 and start sending packets. If everything works properly, you should see the packets return.

  • Hi Si Yoon,

    In RMII Slave mode, the PHY needs to be supplied with a 50 MHz clock from an oscillator, either from the MAC or some other source. You will have to connect the MAC to the breakout board through jumpers, then connect the male connector on the breakout board to the female connector on the EVM.
