TCA9546A: addressing

Part Number: TCA9546A

How does the host address the I2C device extended by tca9546?

  • This device is a passive switch; it creates a direct electrical connection. The addressing of other devices does not change.

  • To add onto what Clemens said, when you send data onto the SDA and SCL pins of the TCA9546A any enabled channels will receive the same data. So it is as if the host is talking directly to the device extended by the TCA9546A. What ever command you would send to talk to any of the devices can be sent to the SDA pin of the TCA9546A and any enabled channel will receive it, included the extended the device you want to talk to.

You can also address the TCA9546A in order to enable and disable channels. The address of the TCA9546A is 1110(A2)(A1)(A0).

If you have any further questions let me know.

    Best,

    Chris
