MAX3237E: DOUT pin output

Part Number: MAX3237E
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MAX3238

Hi,

Good Day. I have a customer who wants to know what is the output of DOUT pin when DIN is in high impedance and Forceoff=H, Forceon=H. Thanks.

Best Regards,

Ray Vincent

  • Ray,

This device doesn't have Forceoff and Forceon, were you thinking of another device?

  • Hi Eric,

Good Day. It is MAX3238, not MAX3237E. Anyways I already found the answer on the datasheet but somehow customer has another query about MAX3238. Please see his query below for your reference. Thank you very much.

"Looking into data sheet, the min input high voltage for DIN is 2V @Vcc 3.3V. However I am curious to know what will be the out of DOUT if I'm suppling High Impedence/Z (1.8V). In my use case, DIN is supplied thorough a logic circuit which is tristate. I am curious to know the what will happen when i am supplying high impedence/Z."

    Best Regards,

    Ray Vincent

  • Hi Ray,

When the input voltage rests between thresholds, the device state is indeterminate (will depend on previous state). In reality, the threshold is likely lower than this 2.0V specification so 1.8V is likely sufficient to achieve a logic high state, though this may not be true over all operational conditions. To avoid unknown behavior, it's recommended to include a biasing resistor on the input line if the input pin is to go high-Z while the line driver is active.

Let us know if you have any more questions.
