HD3SS3220: HD3SS3220

Hi,

Since this EVM has specific design due to "dongle" use case there are some changes that would need to be made for typical applications. What is your application? Do you have external connectors on both sides of HD3SS3220? Does your intended design match better with schematics in section 8.1 Application Information  in the datasheet?

I just use this HD3SS3220 for translate USB3.0 type A protocol to USB Type C.

And the device is USB UFP Device.

Your schematic did not post directly, can you try to repost?

Recommend 220 nF caps, 100 nF is also acceptable 

If I2C is to be used for debug then ADDR should have pullup and/or down resistor options

USB Hub/device SSTX should connect to TXp/n, please verify. Net names look swapped.

USB Hub/device SSRX  should connect to RXp/n, please verify. Net names look swapped.

HD3SS3220 TX1/2 should connect to TX1/2 on the USB-C connector.

HD3SS3220 RX1/2 should connect to RX1/2 on the USB-C connector.

No power supply decoupling caps. Please include 100 nF, 1 uF on both 5V and 3.3V rail. 3.3V rails is for best practice.

But according the "HD3SS3220 DFP Dongle Evaluation Module" page 7.

The USB Hub SSTX SSRX also swapped.

HD3SS3220 TX1/2 & RX1/2 is connect to the USB-C RX1/2  & TX1/2.

And why this Module can still translate signal!?

This is because the signals route to a USB A plug connector in the HD3SS3220 DFP Dongle Evaluation Module. A USB-A plug pins are defined from the device perspective so when making a dongle application it is necessary to swap these signals. For imbedded applications where HD3SS3220 connects directly to a USB Host/Hub PHY this swap should not be done. Does your intended design match better with schematics in section 8.1 Application Information  in the datasheet?

But in the HD3SS3220  datasheet section 8.1 is writed "Note: HD3SS3220 Does Not Care About Differential Pair Polarity".

In these page is talking about the USB supports lane polarity inversion.

But i don't know the polarity inversion is for the USBSSRX & USBSSTX side or both side?

 Cause my DFP host right now ,only can work in the USB2.0 mode.

I don't know is the hardware issue or framware issue.

USB polarity swap refers to P signal and N signal swap not SSTX and SSRX lanes. In other words SSTXP can be connected to either pin 6 or 7 but not pin 9 or 10. From your schematic I suspect this a hardware issue.

But the USBSSTX & USBSSRX was swap in left side, the TX1/RX1 and TX2/RX2 also swap in right side.

Shiuld be two negatives make an affirmative !?

The pin name in type C is didn't swapped.

Yes I have the scope, but it's only 100Mhz scope !

Is that fast enough to analyze the TX signal!?

It can help with debug. Can you probe TX1 and TX 2 when a device sis plugged into the USB-C port?

I just find the answer, cause the host side power issue so make the host reboot.

So the MUX IC schematic is correct.
