SN65LVCP22 Able to Switch SGMII Busses?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65LVCP22, SN65LVCP15, SN65LVCP204, SN65LVDS250

Can the SN65LVCP22 handle switching of SGMII compliant data busses between different MACs and PHYs? This is only intended for Gigabit ethernet. This part appears to meet all of the criteria but I am unsure.

Thanks,

Chris

  • Chris,

The SN65LVCP22  is a 2x2 LVDS cross point switch rated for data rates of 1Gbps.  I believe that SGMII serial data rate is 1.25Gbps so you may want to consider a device with support for a bit higher data rate.  Also, typically SGMII and other Gigabit Ethernet signals are full duplex (TX and RX signals) so in order to support one SGMII port switching between two MACs you will need more serial channels.  A few devices to consider for a full duplex implementation are:

    SN65LVCP15 - 1:2 port replicator

    SN65LVCP204 - 2.5Gbps 4x4 cross point switch

    SN65LVDS250 - 2Gbps 4x4 cross point switch

    Thanks,
