TL16C550C: Obselete?

Part Number: TL16C550C
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TL16C550D

Hi there, I was looking at TL16C550CIFN and TL16C550CIFNR. The TL16C550CIFN shows NRND but the TL16C550CIFNR is Active, and seems like a larger reel. Is this device in fact under lifetime buy? What is the alternative?

  • BTW, the customer query was on TL16C550CIFN, if it is still active or on Lifetime buy.

  • Hi Kannan,

It does look like the non-reel version of this part is NRND. I'm not sure why there is a distinction for the reel and non reel version.

I would recommend looking at the TL16C550D. It is p2p with the TL16550C, it has a higher max data rate and an extended supply range. It is essentially the newer version of the TL16C550C.

    Best,

    Chris

  • Hi!

I face the same situation, why is the non reel part NRND and how should we communicate this?

How come no tube material is available anymore?

    Kind regards,

    Marion

  • Hello,

Since someone marked this thread as answered the thread was closed and I didn't see your reply.

My guess would be that TI is no longer manufacturing the parts in tubes and rather is putting them on reels. That is why they show up as NRND because there is a limited supply of tubes left.

I'm not sure why they made this decision but it could be for a number of reasons and it may just be that more customers are requesting reel versions of the devices.

Keep in mind that I won't see replies to this thread since it is closed.

    Best,

    Chris
