TPS25830A-Q1: Overcurrent on OUT action

Part Number: TPS25830A-Q1

Hi Team,

I see below Overcurrent on OUT action in datasheet. We use the external NFET to provide power path between Vbus and regulator out.

And my questions are showing as below.

1. What is the definition about minor overload conditions?

2. Will the fault assert when hard short event occur when we use the external NFET?  We did the measurement and the result indicate that the fault pin will not have action. It's not make sense to us when hard short event occrred.

Regards,

Roy

  • Hi Roy,

    We will reply next week.

  • Hi Roy,

    1. There is no definition about minor overload conditions, just means 'few'.

    2. Yes, there is no fault indication when using the external NFET under over-current condition.

  • Hi Ansel,

    Thanks for comments.

I reviewed the datasheet and I would like double confirm if my understanding is correct or not. We use external NMOS structure.

    1. If overload event occurred, the current will be limited. Could you let me know how could we know the event occurring?

    2. If short circuit event occurred, the chip will go into hiccup mode like retry. Could you let me know how could we know the event occurring?

    3. If we would like to test OVP feature in the factory, do you have any suggestion?

    Regards,

    Roy

  • Hi Roy,

    1. It can monitor LS_GD or VRimon/VILIMIT.

    2. The same with 1st question. What is motivation to monitor this? Because 830A can handle itself.

    3. I think it can monitor LS_GD, when OVP occurs, the LS_GD will turn to low.
