TSER953: V3Link vs FPDlink

Part Number: TSER953

Hi Team,

I recently came across the TI V3 link serdes series and I was wondering if you could help me understand the difference between those SerDes ic's and the FPD Link III ones that we're currently using. The only difference I've been able to discern is that the V3 link ones appear to be targeting industrial/medical while the FPD Link ones are aimed more at automotive both in marketing material and temperature range. Are there any other parameters we should take into consideration in deciding between the two? Are V3 Link and FPD Link interoperable?

 regards,

RJ

  • Hello Ramon,

V3Link is a new technology from TI leveraging the IP from FPD-Link to target industrial, medical, and consumer applications. The only difference between V3Link and FPD-Link is the temp range and the test programs that the two devices go through. Since they go through different test programs the two product families are not interoperable, but otherwise are functionally the same. So V3Link can pair with V3Link only and FPD-Link can pair with FPD-Link only. The main difference is really just the temp range and the fact that the V3Link portfolio is not automotive qualified therefore does not carry the overhead of automotive qual from a commercial standpoint

    Best Regards,
