TCAN4550EVM: What does the common mode inductor used for?

Part Number: TCAN4550EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN4550,

Dear Teams,

My customer is evaluating our TCAN4550 EVM. They found there is a common mode inductor with part number DN1, while it has not mounted in the board. Could I ask what is the function of this common mode inductor? What is the material part number of DN1?

Thanks!

Dylan

  • Hi Dylan,

Common mode chokes are commonly used to increase a system's electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) performance. A common mode choke (CMC) filters our or common mode signals (as the name suggests). Such common mode frequencies are more likely to emit electromagnetic interference (EMI) into the environment or be generated by external EMI coupling into the network. More info on CMCs and EMC can be found in this E2E thread.

Certain OEMs may certify different CMCs to be used in their products. The 100uH CMC labeled L3 on the TCAN4550EVM (DNP) is listed in the BOM: ACT45B-101-2P-TL003.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

    Regards,
    Eric Schott
