MAX3243E: Does it support RS422/RS485?

Part Number: MAX3243E

Hi Team,

Does MAX3243E support RS422/RS485 interface?

If no, do we have solution can support them?

Best regards,

Hardy

  • Hi Hardy,

This device is an RS-232 transceiver, which is quite different than an RS-485 device. Namely, RS485 (expanded from RS-422) is a differential signaling protocol. You may want to check out our RS-485 portfolio here

Let me know if you have any more questions.

  • Hi Eric,

My customer is seeking P2P solution with MAXLINEAR SP339E. But I have checked ti.com and don't find P2P solution.

Could you suggest TI same function with competitor part?

The SP339E datasheet as below link.

  • Hi Hardy,

This part is a specialized device that contains both RS-232 (3TX/5RX) and RS-485 (half or full duplex) transceivers. We don't offer any such device that integrates both types of transceivers into the same package. However, I can recommend solutions for each use independently.

    For the multichannel 1Mbps RS-232 line driver/receiver, I can recommend the SN75C3243

For the RS-485 transceiver, it will depend on if you are currently using half-duplex or full-duplex mode. For this, I can recommend THVD1450 or THVD1452 for half-duplex or full-duplex respectfully. Note that these transceivers do not have integrated termination so a resistor will need to be placed externally if required for that node.
