SN65HVD266: Please provide a detailed review of the CAN transceiver.

Part Number: SN65HVD266
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN1051

Please provide a detailed review . And also suggest the method to calculate the values of capacitors choke at the filter section of the IC.

  • Hi Aswin,

May I recommend a newer 8-pin Silent mode CAN transceiver such as TCAN1051 or TCAN1057A? If there is a particular reason why SN65VHD266 was chosen, there is no problem using this device as shown.

This schematic looks good. I don't have any changes to recommend. See my comments below.

    • Decoupling capacitors included and valued appropriately.
    • Split capacitor included and valued appropriately.
    • Bus capacitors included and valued appropriately - ensure placement close to connector and along signal path.
    • TVS diode included - ensure placement close to connector and along signal path.
    • Termination resistors included correctly.
      • I cannot see the values of the termination resistors. Typical values would be 60-ohms for split-termination. These may also be high-ohmic for partial termination.
    • All pull-up / series resistances are acceptable.

Let me know if you have any specific questions or concerns.

    Regards,
    Eric Schott

  • Hi Aswin,

I'm correcting the termination value typo above. Total resistance from slit termination should be 120-ohms normally, meaning two 60-ohm resistors for split termination.
