TCAN1051H: Alternate for (H) and (HG)

Part Number: TCAN1051H
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN1042HG, TCAN1042H

We are looking for an alternate to TCAN1051HDR that is both 70V bus tolerant and an SOIC packaging. (H) and (HG) are two transceivers that we’ve already been searching the market to buy and use in our design. (HV) and (HGV) are two other alternates I’ve been considering that include a level shifter on pin 5. I am wondering if the level shifter on pin 5 needs to be connected in order for the transceiver to work or if it can be left floating? Pin 5 in our design is left floating, so I am wondering if we can actually use (HV) and (HGV) as alternates for (H) and (HG)?

  • Joe,

Unfortunately pin 5 on these V-versions for 8-pin transceivers must be supplied. If it is left floating the device will be in an under voltage state where CAN communication is not possible.

Is the silent feature on pin 8 needed? If not, the TCAN1042H and TCAN1042HG would also work here, though I'm assuming those have supply limitations like most of our CAN transceivers.

    Regards,
