[FAQ] TSER953: V3Link vs. FPD-Link

Part Number: TSER953

What is V3Link and how is it different from FPD-Link?

    • V3Link and FPD-Link are based on the same high-speed SerDes technology. They are both SerDes pairs that transfer high-res uncompressed video, bidirectional control, and power over a single cable
    • FPD-Link is the name of the product line. The product line is divided into three portfolios: ADAS, IVI, and V3Link. ADAS and IVI are synonymous with Automotive FPD-Link, while V3Link is industrial. V3Link does not feature automotive qualifications such as ASIL ratings, and the chips follow different testing processes at TI
    • Typical uses for FPD-Link include Infotainment displays and ADAS sensor systems in automobiles. Typical uses for V3Link are medical vision such as endoscopy or surgical robots, IP network cameras and other video surveillance, large appliances, and any other non-automotive equipment that need to connect remote sensors or displays.
