DP83825I: Master-Slave clock options for back-back repeater mode

Part Number: DP83825I
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-010046, DP83822I

If I connect two devices in a repeater configuration, can I simply have one set for master (with local 25MHz xtal connected) then feed the master's 50MHz clock signal to the other device configured as a slave?

The repeater config block diagram in the DP83825I datasheet shows both devices configured as a slave and then an external 50Mhz clock routed to both.

TIDA-010046, which uses a DP83822I connected to a DP83825I in repeater mode has the DP83825I set for master and then it's 50MHz output is fed to the DP83822I.  I guess my question is can either configuration work when using two DP83825I devices?

Thanks
