DP83848VYB: Difference in Kernel

Part Number: DP83848VYB
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83848H

Hi Team,

Question regarding the DP83848 part.

I purchased a DP83848IVV/NOPB part in 48 pin LQFP.

My Linux kernel reads the PHY vendor ID as 0x2000 5C90 which does not match the SNLS266E –MAY 2007–REVISED MARCH 2015 datasheet for the part. Instead it matches the SNLS250E –MAY 2008–REVISED APRIL 2015 datasheet for the DP83848H/J/M/T part.

Normally, I would worry about that kind of a deviation from the datasheet, but I’m having issues getting the part to work. It receives all data fine and I can run “TCPDUMP” from the embedded Linux OS and see incoming messages and attempts to reply, but the DP83848 will not transmit. (Used the default strapping and then added an external 2.2K pull-up to PHYADDR1 to ensure it was not in the isolate mode.)

So are these really the same die and merely packaged differently?

Regards - RJ
